Fifty days, 11,175 miles! WOW! And it all went according to plan - on time and on budget!

Choice Hotels: We learned early on that if you book motel rooms through Choice Hotels you can accumulate points toward a free room. By the time the trip was over, we'd earned SIX free nights! Choice partners are Comfort Inn (our favorite), Sleep Inn, Quality Inn, Econolodge and others.
The VW: What a car! She never skipped a beat. Mileage overall was about 45, but we saw 50 a few times. All our stuff fit perfectly, with plenty of room for souvenirs. Very comfortable in spite of its diminutive size. Too bad we have to turn the car back to VW.
GPS: I have a new respect for our "Mrs. Mac", the GPS map in our phone. She was right 99.95% of the time!
We successfully reached the six National Parks we needed to cross off our list. Now, there are only 4 left: 2 in Florida, 2 in California.
