For many years we have been followers of Rev. Adam Hamilton, Pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, the largest Methodist church in the country, here in Leawood, Kansas. Over the last couple of years we have watched with interest as the church built this fabulous new sanctuary with a magnificent stained glass window. Since Kansas City was "right on the way" we had to plan on stopping on a Sunday morning!
We met Ann and Bryan in the lobby for the 11:00 service. Since Pastor Adam was out of town at the Texas Annual conference, we heard a great sermon from Rev. Scott from their Downtown campus.
Even though this church has 2500 people at each of five (?) services, its really a friendly place! There are ushers and greeters everywhere! And the new sanctuary is awesome! We were proud to have contributed a little bit to the stained glass window, its amazing! Just below the stained glass window is the choir "loft" and a full width TV screen for showing hymnal words, videos, etc.The choir is amazing, complete with full orchestra!
After the service, we hurried back to the hotel to change our clothes and head over to the ballpark. We were bit late, but no matter. We got there just in time for a rain delay. We waited around for a thunderstorm to do its thing - a real deluge! Kaufman Stadium was renovated (2009) but it still seems a bit dated. I've never seen so many food options! Its fun to see all the fans decked out in their Royal's gear! ( I was the only one with a Red Sox cap) During the rain delay, we checked out the Royals Hall of Fame.
Turns out it was a lousy game. The Royals lost 8-0. Oh well! Another good dinner at the hotel sports bar - nothing else around!
