Not much to report about our 380 miles today. It takes forever to get out of a downtown convention hotel! Of course, since we were there for five days, we had ALL our stuff. So once you get ready, you call down for a bellman with a cart, who shoes up in just a few minutes. He loads everything up and meets you down in the lobby. Then, you have to go check out. Then you have go down into the bowels of the parking garage and walk around until you find your car (using the key fob alarm), leave the garage, drive around the block back to the front of the hotel, where the bellman will meet you and help load up the car. Then you have to complain to the front desk that they have charged you twice for parking and get that corrected.
Finally, we're on the road by about 10:00. Since our cooler is now empty (we haven't been anywhere near a grocery store for five days) we decided to have breakfast at the first Waffle House we came to. We did, and it was awesome! After we got past Macon, we decided the interstate was too boring so we left it in Perry, GA and picked up Rt 129 heading south. We stayed on that road all the way to Valdosta when we got back on I-75. Still boring. And 100 miles of thunderstorms and torrential downpours!
The secondary roads are so much more interesting than the Interstate. Generally, the roads are excellent and there is very little traffic, particularly NO truck traffic. Its a lot slower, but a lot more interesting. For example, the little towns are often a county seat with the original early 1900s County Courthouse. Interesting architecture. Then there's the agriculture. We drove by lots of fields of what we think were soy beans. There was some corn, maybe some peanuts and tobacco? There was a fair amount of lumbering and a smattering of cattle ranching. Also many beautiful homes with huge lawns! Must be the farming business is pretty good this year!
Arrived at our old Quality Inn at about 6:30. Dinner at a place across the parking lot called PDQ Tenders. A fast food chain we'd never seen before. Actually, quite good!
Tomorrow continue south to Linda Jump's in Palm Bay by noon.
